Iran's
Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said on Wednesday that member
countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) should impose an oil
embargo and other sanctions on Israel.
According to
the British news agency Reuters, Hossein Amirabdullahyan has also demanded that
all member states expel Israeli ambassadors.
An emergency
meeting of the OIC is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia after a large number
of Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a hospital in Gaza late
on Tuesday.
A statement
from the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that Hossein Amirabdollahian demanded
that Islamic countries impose immediate and complete sanctions on Israel,
including oil embargoes, in addition to expelling Israeli ambassadors.
Iran's
foreign minister has also called for a team of Islamic lawyers to document
possible Israeli war crimes in Gaza.
It should be
noted that Iran does not have any kind of diplomatic relations with Israel.
Before
Tuesday's airstrike on a Gaza hospital, Palestinian health officials said at
least 3,000 civilians had been killed in Israel's 11-day bombardment.
The series
of attacks began after Hamas riots in southern Israel on October 7, which left
1,300 people dead and nearly 200 hostages in Gaza.
