'President
Putin to host first Russia-Arab conference in October'
Russian
President Vladimir Putin has said he has invited Arab leaders and the
Secretary-General of the Arab League to attend the first Russia-Arab summit.
Russian news
agencies reported on Saturday, citing a statement from the Kremlin in Moscow,
that the conference will take place on October 15 this year.
According to
the Interfax news agency, the statement attributed to the Russian president
said, “I am confident that this conference will further strengthen bilateral
relations and cooperation in many areas will be beneficial for our countries.
This will help ensure security, peace and stability in the Middle East and
North Africa region.”
The Arab
League organization includes 22 countries. This organization represents the
Arab countries of the Middle East and countries located in the northern part of
Africa.
The countries
in the organization cooperate on regional politics, economic and military
issues, among other areas.
The
statement from the Russian presidential office came at a time when the US
president has returned from a four-day visit to the Gulf countries.
Washington
has said that several agreements were signed during President Trump’s visit,
including Saudi Arabia’s $600 billion investment in the United States and $142
billion in arms purchases, as well as partnership plans in the field of
artificial intelligence by the United Arab Emirates.
