Hamas 'No Heroes, Only Victims' in Israel Conflict, Ex-Saudi Intelligence Chief.
The former intelligence chief of SaudiArabia, Prince Turki al-Faisal, has said that both Israel and Hamas should be condemned for attacks on civilians, but Palestinians have the right to resist the occupation of the Israeli army.
According to
Arab News, while addressing the participants at the Booker Institute for Public
Policy at Rice University in Houston, Prince Turki al-Faisal said that as Hamas
is accused of attacking civilians, they should not attack people of any age or
gender. We openly condemn the attacks on the citizens of
He said that
attacks on civilians are against Islamic teachings, which prohibit attacks on
places of worship and civilians even during war.
"But I also
condemn Israel's indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Gaza and its attempt to
forcibly push them into (the peninsula of) Sinai."
"There
are no heroes in this conflict, only victims," Prince Turki Al-Faisal
said.
Prince Turki
al-Faisal, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States and Britain, added
that "all people who are subjugated by force have the right to resist
occupation, and this is also militarily justified."
However, he
said that he considers different approaches more beneficial for the Palestinians.
"I prefer the second option, that is, civil rebellion and civil
disobedience." British rule in India and Soviet rule in Eastern Europe
ended in the same way.
Ten days
ago, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, after rocket attacks on Israel
from Gaza, entered Jewish settlements and killed more than 1,000 people,
including soldiers and civilians.
After this
attack, Israel announced the elimination of Hamas and started bombing the Gaza
Strip, in which more than 3,000 Palestinians have been killed so far.
On Tuesday
night, 500 civilians were killed when Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza.
Prince Turki
Al-Faisal said that there is no justification for another wrongdoing in
response to one wrongdoing and both sides of this conflict should be condemned.
He said that
Hamas gave an opportunity to an unpopular government in Israel that half of the
country's population describes as "fascist, evil, and hateful".
He said, "Israel has a great military advantage and we are seeing before our eyes
the destruction that is happening in Gaza."
Prince Turki
al-Faisal condemned Israel for the targeted killing and indiscriminate arrest
of Palestinian children, women, and men in the West Bank.
He also
discussed the current situation in the context of recent events related to the
struggle of the Palestinian people.
He said,
"I keep hearing one phrase in the American media: unprovoked attack."
What more is needed to incite outrage than what Israel has done to the
Palestinian people for three-quarters of a century.

"I
refer you to the February 17, 2014, Middle East Monitor article titled: Israeli
ex-soldiers confess to a role in 1948 massacre of Palestinians," Prince
Turki al-Faisal said. Read it and weep like I did.'
He said that
between May and July, Israel killed 450 Palestinians, including 67 children.
"This bleeding must stop."
Prince Turki
also mentioned the West's different reactions to the actions of the Palestinians
and Israelis during the conflict.
"I
condemn Western politicians who shed tears when Israelis are killed by
Palestinians, but refuse to express sorrow when Israelis kill
Palestinians."
