Still consider Chinese counterpart 'dictator': President Joe Biden

US President Joe Biden has said hours after meeting his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that he still considers him a 'dictator'.

According to the French news agency AFP, in June this year, President Joe Biden compared Chinese President Xi Jinping to a 'dictator', which Beijing expressed indignation at.

At the end of a news conference on Wednesday, a journalist asked US President Joe Biden if he would still use that term for his Chinese counterpart. To which he replied, 'Look, I mean he's a dictator in the sense that he's running a country that's a communist country, and that country is based on a system of government that's different from us. Totally different.'

After 2017, the Chinese president is on a visit to the United States. The two presidents met for about four hours in San Francisco.

The US President said that he and his Chinese counterpart have agreed to communicate directly with each other in times of crisis between the two countries.

He said that the two countries have also agreed to maintain diplomatic relations.

"The Chinese president and I have agreed that we can pick up the phone and call directly and it will be heard immediately."

The two countries have also agreed to restore military ties that China severed in August 2022 after then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has said in a statement that President Xi Jinping has warned the US President about arming Taiwan.

The statement said that the two countries have also agreed to resume high-level military talks.

According to China's Foreign Ministry, "the United States should stop arming Taiwan and support China's peaceful unification."

President XiJinping warned Washington that Beijing is not satisfied with US sanctions and other measures against its companies.
