FIFA
World Cup: US's defeat by Belgium, Trump declares match-fixing?
The key
match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup between the United States and Belgium was
played on Monday night, in which Belgium defeated the host United States 1-4 to
advance to the quarterfinals.
This match
was also important in that American player Balogun was facing a one-match
suspension due to a red card, but FIFA immediately postponed the suspension and
allowed him to play after Donald Trump intervened.
Belgium also
filed an appeal against FIFA's decision, but FIFA rejected it.
Before the
match, US President Donald Trump, while talking to the media at the White
House, said that if the United States lost this match, he would call it a
'fixed'.
Trump said
that both teams will enter the field with their full strength and if Belgium
succeeds, they should be proud of this achievement.
However, he
sarcastically said that if the US loses, he will say that this match was also
‘fixed’ like the 2020 presidential election, but will not discuss this matter further.
