Who are the Shields: A Historical and Cultural Perspective

In the world black and white play a very important role in determining social class. So much has been written about it that it continues till now. As for establishing superiority, the whites have limited it. Black people are seen as unique in the world because of their color and race.

Existence of Blacks in the Subcontinent:

In the subcontinent, black people are called Sidi, Habshi, and Shidi. And researchers have conflicting opinions about them. While some say they are the original people of the region and others say they were brought by slavery, both of these things require research.

The Shedi community of Pakistan are descendants of East Africans who were enslaved by Arab traders between the 8th and 19th centuries. According to the Young Shedi Welfare Organization (YSWO), there are no reliable figures on the size of the community's population, with estimates ranging from a substantial 50,000 to less than one million. Despite this, Pakistan is known to have the largest population of Afro-descendants in Asia. Shidis live in southern Pakistan, with an estimated 50 percent in Lower Sindh, 20 percent in Karachi city, and 30 percent in Balochistan. The majority of Shidis are Muslim, but their distinctive cultural characteristics are linked to their specific history.

It is recorded in the history books of Sindh that this region was named after the two sons of Ham bin Nuh. Whose names were Hind and Sindh, the black race is also related to the race of Ham, that is, the black race has been living here since ancient times. According to anthropologists, the ancient nations of the southern regions of India have been inhabited since the time the world came into existence.
