Photos of 'scary rabbits with horns' go viral in America, what is the truth?
In the US state
of Colorado, some rabbits are becoming the center of attention these days
because they have strange horn-like growths on their heads.
According to
the American news agency AP, people are calling them ‘Frankenstein rabbits’ or
‘scary rabbits’ after seeing this sight.
These
rabbits seen in the city of Fort Collins are actually not scary creatures, but
victims of a common virus.
According to
experts, these rabbits are infected with a virus called the Shope
papillomavirus, which causes wart-like bumps on their faces. When these bumps
grow, they look like horns.
When the
pictures of these rabbits went viral on social media, people gave them various
funny and scary names, but in reality, it is nothing new or dangerous.
Experts say
that this virus has been around for many years and that is why the ‘horned
rabbit’ (jackalope) is also mentioned in old stories.
This virus is
not dangerous to humans or pets and is limited to rabbits. In most cases,
rabbits fight off the virus on their own and the bumps disappear over time.
According to
officials, such cases are more common in the summer, because during this season
there are more fleas and ticks that spread the virus.
So if you
see a rabbit like this, there's no need to panic, it's just a common disease,
nothing scary or dangerous.
