Ukrainian President addresses US Congress, the mayor, and Russian troop’s
exchange: The war in Ukraine has entered its 21st day and a ceasefire is being
implemented.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has called on the US
Congress to impose more sanctions on Russia.
In a teleconference, President Zelensky said that Russia was
constantly bombing Ukraine, killing and injuring thousands. Russia is testing
our courage and human values. But we are people who have unshakable faith in
democracy and freedom. We can give our lives but we cannot accept aggression.
"We've been going through the same situation every day
for the last three weeks," he said, referring to the 1941 US airstrikes on
Pearl Harbor and the 9/11 attacks.
President Zelensky demanded that all Russian politicians be
banned and that all American businesses leave Russia. He also reiterated his
demand for a no-fly zone over Ukraine's airspace.
Ukraine has handed over to Russia nine captured Russian
soldiers this morning in exchange for the release of the mayor of the
southeastern city of Militia.
The Russian military arrested Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of
Multiple, last week. The Ukrainian president's press secretary said in a
statement that Ivan Fedorov had been released from Russian custody and that
nine Russian soldiers arrested in his place were being released.
On the other hand, Russian President Putin has said that his
military campaign in Ukraine is continuing as planned, economic sanctions
imposed on Russia by Western countries have failed, but the situation is not
easy for Russian forces.
US President Putin calls President Putin a war criminal.
The Russian government says the statement was made by a
country's president. Its bombs have killed millions of people around the world.
US President Joe Biden was speaking to reporters at the White
House on Wednesday. When asked by a journalist if Putin was a war criminal, he
did not respond at first, but when asked again, Biden said he thought he was a
war criminal.
President Biden did not elaborate, but White House
spokeswoman Jane Sackie said Biden's comments came in the wake of Russian
missile strikes on hospitals and other civilian buildings in Ukraine.
Spokeswoman Jane Sackie added that the lives of civilians have
been endangered by the aggression and horrific attacks of another dictator in
another country. Hospitals are being destroyed, pregnant women, journalists, and
others are being affected. President Biden actually answered a direct question.
Jane Sackie said the State Department was reviewing Russia's
attacks in Ukraine to determine if they fall into the category of war crimes. Russia
has strongly condemned the US president's statement.
"We consider this
statement unacceptable and unforgivable," said Dmitry Peskov, President
Vladimir Putin's press secretary. The statement came from the president of a
country whose bombs have killed millions around the world.
