NIH - National
Institutes of Health
The NIH
campus covers 322 acres and 75 buildings. It is home to 20,000 people with
diverse backgrounds and skills. But for all those who were committed to the NIH mission, the first step was to acquire basic knowledge for the basic sciences
about nature and way of life, and the second was to apply it.
Our knowledge of promoting healthy living and
reducing disease and disability dates back to 1887. And in 1891, a one-room
laboratory called the Hygiene Laboratory at the Marine Hospital in Staten
Island, New York was moved to the capital of our country.
On the top
floor of the Butler Building and then on the 25th in 1904 and in 1930 a more
spacious site in E Street Northwest, in 1930 Run Select donated the land to the
Hygiene Laboratory with a generous donation from Luke and Helen Wilson.
Nominated again.
A few years later, in 1940, President Franklin
Roosevelt moved to his current location in Bethesda, dedicating buildings and
squares. From the construction stages of the National Institutes of Health,
speaks the universal language of philanthropy.
The role of the NIH was further expanded by
Roosevelt's signing of the Public Health Service Act in 1944. The National
Institutes of Health today became the National Institutes of Health in 1948.
Covers 27
institutions and centers, each of which is part of the Public Health Service
with a specific research agenda. Which thus is important for the US Department
of Health and Human Services. The aim
is to disseminate basic scientific information about living systems and to use it
to promote knowledge.
Prolonging
health and reducing disease contributes to our internal and external programs.
In-country programs include research training of leading scientists in NIH
facilities and technology transfer on campus. Which is often dedicated to
dealing with higher health risks.
The NIH Clinical Center supports these
efforts. This remarkable facility is dedicated to being the world's largest
research center and fully research protocol. People from all over the world
travel here to participate in ground research and treatment.
NIH also
supports out-of-facility research through our Extramoral Grants program, which
funds advanced research through leading investigators. Nationwide peer review
process that reviews these grants.
The world is enviable for its power and
ability to recognize and support the best science, including more than 140
Nobel laureates in recent years. Who has the support?
The NIH has
a remarkable track record of healthcare achievements in collaboration with NIH
research, including significant reductions in deaths from heart disease and
stroke. The steady decline in cancer deaths and the coordination of the Human
Genome Project led to the mapping of the human genome.
Invaluable
research by NIH is contributing to the extension of life. The rapid decline in
expectations and disability. The future of medical research at NIH has
brightened in the last century. Much research has focused on understanding the
disease and its treatment.
The 21st century will acquire a change
clinical examination as NIH targets infection mediation before manifestations
show up. A personal medical approach involves
identifying who is at risk and then intervening to prevent illness or keep work
safe.
This will require a greater understanding of
the molecular events involved in the disease, but rewards greatly improve
quality of life and reduce the cost of medical care.
