Iran makes big announcement regarding participation in FIFA World Cup
Iran has officially
announced its participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The
announcement comes at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States
are at their peak, but the uncertainty in this regard has now ended.
According to
the Iranian government, the national football team is fully prepared to
participate in the global event and all arrangements have been finalized.
Government
spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajrani, speaking to state media, said that the Ministry
of Sports and Youth Affairs has completed steps to provide the team with the
best facilities so that the players can perform well at the global level.
Earlier,
statements attributed to the Iranian Minister of Sports had indicated that they
would not participate, but the recent clarification has put an end to these
speculations.
On the other
hand, despite the ongoing tensions in the region and recent military clashes,
Iranian officials have made it clear that sports activities will not be
affected by the political situation.
It should be
noted that the situation has improved after the recent ceasefire brokered by
Pakistan, which has further ensured Iran’s participation.
On the other
hand, sources say that Trump's special envoy Paolo Zampoli had requested FIFA
President Gianni Infantino to include four-time world champion Italy in the
World Cup instead of Iran.
