Sonu Nigam
Andia FIR
has been registered against Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam in the state of
Karnataka, Nadia.
According to
the news website 'Mint', the Kannada language speaking organization Karnataka
Rashana Vedike (KRV) has filed a formal complaint with the Bengaluru police.
In the FIR,
KRV has alleged that ‘singer Sonu Nigam has linked the struggle of Kannada
speakers with terrorism and the incidents in Pahalgam.’
According to
reports, they have claimed that Sonu Nigam is trying to incite enmity between
different linguistic groups. KRV has termed the words uttered by Sonu Nigam as
an unacceptable comparison between a democratic and cultural claim and
terrorism.
The
organisation has also warned that if Sonu Nigam does not publicly apologise for
his remarks, his concerts and performances in the state of Karnataka will be
banned.
The
controversy has come to light after a video of Sonu Nigam’s concert in
Bengaluru went viral.
In the
video, it can be seen that a student is apparently requesting Sonu Nigam to
sing a song in Kannada.
In response,
the singer stops his performance and says, ‘This is the reason that led to the
Pahalgam incident, please look at who is standing in front of you, love you all
guys (I love you all)’.
The singer further said, ‘In my career, I have
sung in different languages, but the best songs I have sung are in Kannada.
Whenever I come to your city, I come with a lot of love. We perform at many
places, but whenever we perform in Karnataka, we come with a lot of respect for
you.’
He further said, ‘You have respected me like
your own family, but I did not like the fact that a boy who is younger than my
career age started threatening me rudely for singing in Kannada.’ It should be
remembered that Sonu Nigam’s songs are popular among those who understand Hindi
and Urdu all over the world, but he has also sung hit songs in Kannada and many
other languages.
