In the US, members of Congress, conservative social activists, and wealthy tech investors have called for a ban on TikTok.

According to Arab News, it has been accused by various sections in the United States that the social media platform TikTok is showing such content regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict, which is reducing the support for Israel among the American youth. and which conflict with US foreign policy interests.

Senator Marco Rubio, vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Intelligence, said in a statement "I have been warning for some time that the communist chain has the potential to influence Americans using TikTok's algorithm."

"We saw the downplaying of the Uyghur genocide on TikTok, and then the status of Taiwan, and now the terrorism of Hamas," he said.

Critics believe TikTok uses algorithms to spread content in support of Palestinian and Hamas initiatives while trying to destabilize the country.

However, TikTok denies these allegations and dismisses the claims of bias.

Last week, Jeff Morris, a technology investor and former Tinder executive, pointed to data on TikTok and wrote that "Israel is losing the TikTok war."

He said that videos shared with the pro-Palestine hashtag 'Stand with Palestine' received 2.9 billion views, while the pro-Israel hashtag 'Stand with Israel' received only 20 million views.

According to TikTok data, the hashtag 'Stand with Palestine' has been used with 9,000 videos in the last 30 days and has received 27 million views in the US.

While in the same period, the hashtag 'Stand with Israel' was used with 5000 videos, which received 43 million views.

60 percent of those using the hashtag 'Stand With Palestine' are in the 18-24 age group, while 42 percent of those using the hashtag 'Stand With Israel' are over 35 years of age.

Social media companies are facing scrutiny over content related to the Hamas-Israel conflict.

A few users have expressed concern that their content has not received the expected views and have even had their accounts suspended citing security concerns.

Facebook's parent company Meta last week temporarily suspended a new account created in support of Palestine, 'I On Palestine', saying it was at risk of being hacked.

TikTok's guidelines prohibit the promotion of content based on 'violent political organizations' such as Hamas and hateful ideologies such as Islamophobia or anti-Semitism. However, identifying such violent content has been a challenge for the company.
