American
woman sets new world record for solo sailing
Kelsey
Pfendler, a river guide at the American Grand Canyon, has completed a historic
and record-breaking journey by sailing alone across the Pacific Ocean from
California to Hawaii.
According to
local media, Kelsey Pfendler arrived in Honolulu on Friday night aboard her
21-foot-long boat, the Lily, after spending about a month and a half at sea,
where she was warmly welcomed by hundreds of people.
She began
her more than 2,400-mile journey from Monterey, California, in May. Her goal
was to become the first American woman, the youngest woman, and the fastest
woman to complete the journey across the Pacific Ocean alone.
During the
journey, millions of people followed her campaign on social media, where she
shared videos of moments spent alone at sea, difficulties, and interesting
experiences.
According to
initial records, Kelsey Pfendler has broken not only women's but also previous
speed records for men.
However,
their feat has yet to be officially confirmed by the Ocean Rowing Society
International, which verifies ocean rowing records for Guinness World Records.
