Ugandan army chief demands $1 billion in damages and marriage to ‘beautiful woman’ from Turkey
Kampala: The army chief of the African country of Uganda, Mahuzi Kinrogaba, has sparked a global debate by making a controversial demand for $1 billion from Turkey and a relationship with the ‘most beautiful woman’ for marriage. According to media reports, the president’s son, General Mahuzi Kinrogaba, claimed in a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that Uganda has played an important role in regional security but has not been adequately compensated for it.
According to
media reports, the president’s son, General Mahuzi Kinrogaba, claimed in a
statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that Uganda has
played a significant role in regional security but has not been adequately
compensated for it.
He said that
Turkey is benefiting hugely financially from various development projects,
including ports and airports in the Somali capital Mogadishu, while Uganda has
been responsible for the security of these projects for the past several years.
General
Mahuzi demanded that Uganda be paid $1 billion as a ‘security dividend’.
He
threatened that if this demand was not met, Uganda could sever diplomatic
relations with Turkey and the Turkish embassy in the capital Kampala would be
closed within 30 days.
In another
statement, he advised Ugandans to avoid traveling to Turkey due to security
concerns.
According to
experts, these statements are not only against diplomatic etiquette but can
also negatively affect the relations between the two countries. It should be
noted that Uganda has been participating in operations against the extremist
organization Al-Shabaab in Somalia under the African Union mission for the past
two decades. General Mahuzi Kinrogaba has a great reputation on social media
for his bold and often controversial statements, but his recent demands have
sparked a new diplomatic debate.
