Star footballer Lionel Messi has crossed another historic milestone, scoring the 900th goal of his career.

According to the American news agency Associated Press, world-renowned footballer Lionel Messi achieved this important milestone on Wednesday night in the round of 16 match of the CONCACAF Champions Cup for Inter Miami.

The star footballer scored this goal with his left foot in his own unique style, he has scored most of his goals with his left foot.

In the seventh minute of the match, he received a pass in the middle of the box, controlled the ball, turned and fired a low shot between the defenders and into the goal post.

Messi is the second male player in the world to reach this milestone. Before him, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more than 900 goals, however, Ronaldo had to play almost 100 more matches than Messi to reach this point.

Ronaldo completed 900 goals in September 2024 at the age of 39, while Messi turns 39 in June.

This historic goal also caught the attention of personalities outside of football.

Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson wrote on social media that Messi reaching 900 goals was an "amazing milestone" and called it an "incredible feat."

Even after that, Messi did not seem to be in much of a celebratory mood, as Nashville equalized the match against Inter Miami by a goal each and made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament on the away goals rule.

The first leg of the round of 16 between the two teams in Nashville last week ended in a 0-0 draw.

After the match, Nashville coach BJ Callahan paid tribute to Messi, congratulating him on completing 900 goals and calling him the ‘best’ player.

Football fans believe that Brazilian legend Pele scored more than 1,000 goals in his career, but his ‘official’ record is around 800.

According to reports, Pele’s number of goals, including various matches, is said to range from around 650 in league matches to around 1,300 in total, including matches against some lower-tier teams.

Messi remains one of the most popular and most followed players in world football. Since joining Inter Miami, his No. 10 jersey has become the best-selling jersey in the league, and his every move has made headlines around the world.

Messi has been part of a total of 47 trophies for club and country, including the 2022 World Cup and last season's MLS title, making him the most decorated player in men's football history.
