Special
features of Samsung's thinnest phone, the Galaxy S25
South Korean
technology giant Samsung Electronics on Tuesday unveiled its thinnest flagship
model yet, the S25 Edge.
According to
the British news agency, the S25 Edge has been equipped with advanced
artificial intelligence (AI) features. The new phone is part of an effort to
overtake rival Apple in the premium market.
The launch
of the S25 Edge has been made keeping in mind the growing demand from young
consumers, especially those in their 20s and 30s, who mostly want smartphones
that are lightweight and easily fit in their pockets.
Samsung said
that “consumer feedback was clear, they wanted a phone that was thin and easy
to carry in their pockets, but without compromising on performance.”
To that end,
the company made changes to the device’s internal structure, including reducing
the thickness of the printed circuit board and thermal systems.
Analysts say
Samsung has introduced the new model early as part of a strategy to get ahead
of Apple, which is set to introduce a thinner iPhone in the second half of the
year.
“By
launching the new model a few months early, Samsung could potentially impress
Apple and attract consumers who are looking for slim smartphones. This seems
like a well-thought-out strategy to gain a foothold in this niche market,” said
Ryu Yang-ho, senior analyst at NH Investment & Securities.
According to
Samsung, the S25 edge will go on sale in South Korea on May 23 and in the
United States on May 30, while it will also be introduced in about 30 other
countries, including China and European countries.
This model
will be available with a starting price of $ 1,099 and features a 6.7-inch (170
mm) screen and a 5.8 mm thin body design. It is larger in size than the basic
S25 model but the difference in weight is only marginal.
The S25 edge
features Samsung's latest AI features, including multi-modal artificial
intelligence. Thanks to this, users can interact with the phone in real time
via camera and voice, such as asking questions using the camera.
Samsung did
not disclose the location of production of this new model.
Data from
Counterpoint Research shows that Samsung became the world's largest smartphone
brand in the first quarter of 2025, capturing 20% of the global market share,
while Apple was in second place with 19%. However, Samsung said last month that
shipments in the second quarter could be affected if tariff threats hit demand.
