Measles
epidemic begins to rise in America, 884 cases reported in 29 states
Measles
cases in the United States have increased alarmingly in 2025.
According to
the latest data, 884 confirmed cases of measles have been reported in 29 states
across the country, which is more than three times the number of cases reported
last year, 285.
Texas has
become the epicenter of the outbreak with 646 cases reported, most of them in
Gaines County. Other affected states include New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, New
York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and others.
There have
been three confirmed deaths from measles so far, including two unvaccinated
children in Texas and one adult in New Mexico. In addition, more than 20
percent of hospitalized children are under the age of five.
Of the
measles cases, 97 percent were either unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination
status, while only 2 had received at least one dose of the MMR vaccine.
