Meta has
announced to limit comments on posts related to Israel and Hamas on its
platforms Facebook and Instagram.
Facebook's
parent company Meta said in a statement that it has taken temporary measures to
limit "potentially objectionable" comments on posts about the
Israel-Hamas conflict on its platforms.
The company
added that under the new policy, users' new posts on Facebook and Instagram
will only be visible to friends and followers in their region. However, the
company did not specify what they mean by region.
"Our
policies are designed to keep people and our platforms safe, while also
ensuring that everyone has the right to have their say," Metta explained
the purpose of the decision.
"These
policies will be applied equally around the world and there is no truth that we
are deliberately suppressing anyone's voice."
META has
described the Palestinian military and political group Hamas as a
"dangerous organization" and said it will ban content praising it.
Facebook was
accused by some social media users this week of hiding content from citizens of
Palestine and Gaza.
A news
website working on behalf of human rights in Palestine said in a statement on
October 10 that Meta, another platform Instagram, had suspended the account of
one of its reporters twice for reporting on Gaza.
In a
statement issued to Arab News, Meta has denied the allegations.
The social
media company added, "The perception that we are trying to suppress a
particular community's point of view is completely false."

their mental health.'

lawsuit also alleges that research has shown that the use of social media
platforms is associated with depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation, and negative
outcomes in education and daily life. leading to
The
complaint also cites a 2021 study by Metta and states that it already knows the
harm to young people, especially girls, who use Instagram.
In the lawsuit filed by the US states against
Meta, apart from heavy fines, Meta has also been requested to compensate the
victims.
