designed by a French sculptor in 1930.The trophy was originally named the
"Victory",but at the end of World War II, in 1946, the trophy was renamed
the "Jules Rimet" trophy.in honor of the services of former FIFA
president and mastermind of the World Cup event, Jules Rimet.
The design featured a gold statue of Nike, the Greek goddess of
victory, holding an octagonal cup on her head and wearing a garland around her
neck.
Made of pure silver, the trophy was inlaid with gold and its blue
base was made of precious stones.The height of the trophy was 14 inches and it

II, an official of the Italian Football Federation, who was also the
vice-president of FIFA.put this trophy in a shoebox and kept it in his bed for
safekeepingThe trophy was kept safe during the war, but it has been stolen
twice since.
For the first time, before the start of the World Cup in 1966, the
trophy was stolen during an exhibition at Westminster Central Hall in LondonThe

the trophy and England remained a laughing stock to the world.
A few days later, a dog named Pickles was playing on the ground
when he found a package wrapped in newspaper,which when his owner opened it,

again stolen from Brazil.
Since 1970, the trophy has been the permanent property of Brazil,
which they used to keep in the offices of their football confederation, from
where it was stolen.
The Brazilian government also announced a huge reward for the
finder of the trophy, but this trophy has not been recovered till date.It is
believed to have been melted down and sold. Brazil later produced a gold-plated
replica of the trophy.
After the Jules Rimet Trophy went permanently to Brazil in 1970,
FIFA had to introduce a new trophy before the 1974 World Cup.For this purpose,
FIFA received 53 designs from around the world and among them, an Italian
artist's design was selected.
The new design featured two athletes, carrying the earth on their
heads.The trophy was 14.4 inches high, and was made of 6.17 kilograms of
18-karat gold.'FIFA World Cup' was engraved on the base of the trophy, and now
after each World Cup, the name of the winning team and the year is also
engraved.

end 13 teams, including only 4 European teams, participated in the World Cup.

was held in Italy in 1934.Uruguay, the host of the first World Cup and the
defending champion, did not participate in the second World Cup held four years
later.
They were angry with European countries that had refused to travel
to Uruguay for the first World Cup,and that Uruguay felt disrespected by their
actions.
A qualifying stage for participation in the World Cup was held to
ensure representation of teams from all continents in the World Cup under a
set-up.32 teams participated in the qualifying stage to select 16 World Cup
teams.
It was the only World Cup in the history of FIFA in which the host
nation also had to go through the qualifying stage.Italy's then-ruler Mussolini
and his party were also accused of corruption at the World Cup.influence

opposing teams.
The quarter-final between Italy and Spain was marred by on-field
fights, brawls and possibly poor refereeing decisions,resulting in a 1-1 draw,

Czechoslovakia by two goals to one.In 1938, the third World Cup was held in
France, in which Italy won for the second time in a row.Italy's ruler Mussolini

read "win or die"Italy, fortunately, managed to defend their title by
defeating Hungary 4-2.Italy's coach at the time of these two victories was
Vittorio Pozzo, and he holds the distinction of being the only coach in the
world to win the World Cup twice.
After that, due to the Second World War, the Football World Cup
could not be held for the next twelve years.In 1950, the World Cup was held
again and this time Brazil qualified to host the World Cup.

hosts Argentina won the World Cup for the first time after defeating the
Netherlands in the final.Since 1982, instead of 16, 24 teams have been included
in this event to represent more countries in the World Cup.
In the twelfth world cup played in 1982, Italy won the World Cup
for the third time.In 1986, Argentina won the World Cup for the second time
under the leadership of Diego Maradona.
