telephone conversation between the US and Russian presidents lasted more than
an hour. A senior US official later told reporters that "although the
talks between the two leaders were solid and professional, they did not change
the pace of the current conflict." Blanken also spoke to his Russian
counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Saturday. Azan Blanken later said in a statement
that "it would not be a surprise if Russia demonstrates some kind of
provocation, which is later used to justify its military action."
Russia and Belarus joint military exercises:
Russia,
meanwhile, said in a statement that "Russia pursued an American submarine
that is said to have entered the waters near the coral islands in the North
Pacific." The command denied that it was conducting any operations in
waters near Russia.

President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday afternoon. According to a statement from
