World Cup: Videos of celebrations in Gaza over Egypt's victory go viral
Egypt’s
historic victory in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup also provided a
rare opportunity for the besieged and oppressed people of Gaza to rejoice.
Videos going
viral on social media showed a large number of Palestinian citizens gathered to
watch the match amidst bombed buildings and makeshift tents.
People
expressed joy after Egypt’s victory, with many children even wearing Egyptian
flags on their faces.
Palestinian
football fans also took to social media to express their joy over Egypt’s
victory.
A user from
Gaza wrote that this was probably the first time they had watched the World Cup
with such enthusiasm.
According to
him, the most beautiful sight than Egypt's victory was the thousands of people
who came out of their tents and destroyed homes to watch the match, where
smiles and sounds of joy could be heard everywhere, as if people had
experienced a few happy moments in their lives despite all the difficulties. It
should be remembered that after the victory, Egypt's head coach walked around
the field carrying a Palestinian flag and waving it, dedicating this victory to
the Palestinian people and the martyrs.
