The price
of Israeli weapons
When an
ordinary American receives a paycheck, he or she may not even realize that a
portion of his or her hard-earned money is being used somewhere in the Middle
East in the form of an F-35 aircraft, a JDAM bomb, or an Iron Dome missile —
and that too for a state that is consistently involved in serious human rights
violations in one of the most sensitive regions of the world. Yes, we are
talking about Israel, and the largest global financial backer of its military
power, the United States.
The
Establishment of Israel and American Blessing
The United
States recognized Israel immediately after its establishment in 1948 and began
providing it with economic and military aid within a few years. But over time,
this aid has become more than a “gift” and a “treaty” — a treaty that every
American administration has made a pillar of its foreign policy. Estimate that
so far, the United States has provided Israel with approximately $297 to $310
billion in aid, making this amount the largest foreign aid in American history.
2016
Historic
Defense Agreement
In 2016,
during the Obama administration, the United States and Israel signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
under which
the United States will provide Israel with $3.8 billion annually through
2028—$33 billion for weapons and $5 billion for missile defense systems. This
money comes from American taxpayers and goes directly to the Israeli Ministry
of Defense.
The
American Factory of Israeli Arms
The United
States has a direct role in the modern military power that Israel has today.
The F-35
stealth aircraft, the Iron Dome missile defense system, David’s Sling, Arrow
missiles, Apache helicopters, and advanced bombs—all have been purchased or
developed with American funding. The United States has provided $2.6 billion
for Iron Dome alone. Not only that, 26 percent of the aid given to Israel can
be spent in its own country — boosting its defense industry.
Recent Wars,
Urgent Aid
From the
Israeli invasion of Gaza in October 2023 through July 2025, the United States
provided Israel with $17.9 billion in emergency military aid — the largest
annual amount in history. In addition, the White House issued a notification
for the provision of additional weapons worth $8 billion in 2025, including missiles,
artillery, and Hellfire
missiles.
Criticism
and Questions
Those who
question US aid say that this money is being taken away from schools,
hospitals, and basic needs that are indispensable for the American people.
Moreover, this aid fuels wars that have killed thousands of innocent
Palestinian civilians, including children and women. The United Nations, human
rights organizations, and the international media have repeatedly expressed
concern about this — but there has been no major change in US policy.
Conclusion:
A reckoning between guns and conscience
US aid to
Israel is not just a diplomatic or defense relationship, but a test of the
global conscience that speaks of human rights, democracy, and justice. American
taxpayers must ask themselves who their hard-earned money is going into — and
who it is being used against.
This is not
just a matter of statistics, it is a matter of ethics, principles, and world
peace. Every bullet that leaves the barrel of a gun is accounted for not only
in the hands of the shooter, but also in the conscience of the buyer.
Do the
American people know that their money is being used for Israeli military
operations?
Has Congress
ever conducted a comprehensive audit of this flow of aid?
Is the
burden of Palestinian death also on the American voter?
These are
the questions being asked around the world
