Elon Musk left the Trump administration last week after 129 days, his first strong statement opposing government policy.

The tax and spending bill is now being debated in the Senate after passing the House of Representatives. If it becomes law, it would also cut subsidies that have benefited Elon Musk’s company Tesla.

When asked about Musk’s criticism during a press briefing, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said the president already knew Musk’s position on the bill.

“It’s not going to change the president’s opinion. It’s a big, beautiful bill, and he’s standing by it.”
